From the 33 volunteers that took part, 17 did yoga for four months and their blood pressure measurements, cardiac and respiratory rate were collected. The yoga group showed a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate. The study concluded that, “The yoga exercises performed in the proposed sequence constitute complementary non-pharmacological control of blood pressure in patients with hypertension.”

Another scientific study undertaken in India looking at the potential beneficial effect of yoga on hypertension concluded “yoga has been found to decrease blood pressure as well as the levels of oxidative stress in patients with hypertension.”
